 你好!Hello! Hola! こんにちは!

Hi everyone! I’m Bruce, the intern from Taiwan in LEX America.

I had stayed in Boston for almost 2 months, and I kind of felt like Boston is my second hometown now.

My family had several homestay experience before form LEX, that’s the first I knowing  about LEX. And then my sister Nancy, became an intern in LEX in Japan for a year, she recommended me should experience it. (With all the blessing and exciting, here I come, Boston!)
Since we don’t have LEX club in Taiwan, so this is my first time to join the LEX club, and I was enjoyed in it a lot!
For me, it’s a whole new way to learn another language like this. It’s more natural and you felt absolutely comfortable in the community that create by LEX. And I think it’s easier for kids and adults to develop their first or second language in this
environment, and also they know the concept of sharing and other social skills.
My hostfamily were super nice and friendly to me, so I don’t have to worry about what to do on weekend.Living with hostfamily, I felt I’m the part of their family and having a strong connection with them. The relationship between me and my hostfamily is more like family not just friends. And by living with them, I felt fully immersed myself in their culture and that’s the things you never experienced by only traveling.

I have traveled around Boston and the nearby city by myself too! Always exciting to visit new cities and those famous places!Time Flies, it’s already two months passed, I’ll keep exploring and learning in the last one month!

For those who are interested in being an intern in Boston, just do it!

Maddie- The First of Many New Experiences

The First of Many New Experiences So, what have my first weeks been like in Japan? ABSOLUTELY BUSY! But, also...AMAZING! Truly, it has been a busy couple of weeks here, but not overwhelmingly so. Furthermore, I`d prefer to be kept busy! Too much free time = too much thinking = homesickness. By keeping a full, fun schedule, with some relaxing and downtime, I can keep engaged with my surroundings, make new friends, and stay sane. To prevent a wall of text, let me break down for you some of my recent activities. So far, I have: Presented about my life in Wisconsin to classes of middle school and elementary school students. Eaten kaiten-zushi, or conveyor belt sushi.  Been interviewed about my biggest surprise when I came to Japan (it`s bluntness in regards to appearance, people won`t hesitate to call someone fat, or tell you that you`ve gotten skinny since they last saw you. As I`ve seen it, it`s never been malicious, just matter-of-fact).  Post filming. To my ...

Hayley- Looking back

Looking Back The Month in Review: As we begin February, it is time for me  to write my monthly report. Technically speaking, I haven’t  been in Japan for a month yet, but this report covers all  that I have done in January. As part of the report, I put together a summary of different categories within my life.  While the following is rather dry, I thought my blog readers  might find it interesting and informative. Host Family: I have a wonderful host family, and I’ve enjoyed settling in and getting to know them. My 8-year-old host brother has adjusted to me, and we get along very well. My 13-year-old host sister has been a great help as I learn Japanese; she has a notebook where she writes down new Japanese words and phrases that I am learning. Sugoi-ne! My host parents are wonderful. My host mom makes me feel like part of the family. She understands about the little things that make one feel “included” in family life. Something as smal...

Ali- Kansai workshop

Tuesday, January 28, 2014 Kansai: Kobe (Ali) Kobe Harbor                 My final stop in Kansai was Kobe. Originally, I wasn't supposed to stop in Kobe, but my Kobe host mother was having a workshop and asked the office if the visiting intern could attend. I am so happy she did! After attending the Kansai workshop for this year's Yearlong-sei and  Seishounen  on Sunday at the Osaka Hippo office, I went to my host mom's workshop.I think the goal of the workshop was to get members excited about going on homestays. At the workshop we heard from various Hippo members about their homestay experiences.  Yearlong-sei and  Seishounen also talked about where they were planning on going and what they were looking forward to. I was neat to hear everyone's stories. Kobe Luminarie              On Monday, I...
