Bonjour!

Je m’appelle Stephanie Juarez. Surnom Mocosa. Tu puovez m’appeler Mocosa. Asante
J’ai 22 ans. Je viens des Etats-Unis. Soy de el estado de Oregon. I like to read, binge watch Netflix, and listen to music. He estado en Japón por 7 meses. Y han pasado muy rápido. Durante mi tiempo aquí he hecho muchas cosas nuevas y he aprendido mucho. Y me encanta Japon!

La semana pasada fui en un paseo en un bote por Tokyo. Fue durante la cena y pude ver los edificios de noche. Fue muy increíble poder ver Tokyo de noche así. Y durante ese tiempo pensé “ Wow! I have been here for 7 months! Que rapido paso el tiempo!”  Sooo enjoy your time.

When I arrived in Japan I participated in Hippo for the first time. I questioned it a lot and was very uncomfortable. After a couple of months I became more used to it and slowly my questions were answered. I can now say I enjoy the atmosphere created with every Hippo Family and the uniqueness brought into each one.
With this blog, as it was mentioned before by Adriana, is to update people around the world as to what Interns do on a weekly basis. Each post will be of a different intern per week and topics will vary. Enjoy reading about what we do or find interesting in that week. Until next time!

Maddie- The First of Many New Experiences

The First of Many New Experiences So, what have my first weeks been like in Japan? ABSOLUTELY BUSY! But, also...AMAZING! Truly, it has been a busy couple of weeks here, but not overwhelmingly so. Furthermore, I`d prefer to be kept busy! Too much free time = too much thinking = homesickness. By keeping a full, fun schedule, with some relaxing and downtime, I can keep engaged with my surroundings, make new friends, and stay sane. To prevent a wall of text, let me break down for you some of my recent activities. So far, I have: Presented about my life in Wisconsin to classes of middle school and elementary school students. Eaten kaiten-zushi, or conveyor belt sushi.  Been interviewed about my biggest surprise when I came to Japan (it`s bluntness in regards to appearance, people won`t hesitate to call someone fat, or tell you that you`ve gotten skinny since they last saw you. As I`ve seen it, it`s never been malicious, just matter-of-fact).  Post filming. To my ...

Hayley- Looking back

Looking Back The Month in Review: As we begin February, it is time for me  to write my monthly report. Technically speaking, I haven’t  been in Japan for a month yet, but this report covers all  that I have done in January. As part of the report, I put together a summary of different categories within my life.  While the following is rather dry, I thought my blog readers  might find it interesting and informative. Host Family: I have a wonderful host family, and I’ve enjoyed settling in and getting to know them. My 8-year-old host brother has adjusted to me, and we get along very well. My 13-year-old host sister has been a great help as I learn Japanese; she has a notebook where she writes down new Japanese words and phrases that I am learning. Sugoi-ne! My host parents are wonderful. My host mom makes me feel like part of the family. She understands about the little things that make one feel “included” in family life. Something as smal...

Ali- Kansai workshop

Tuesday, January 28, 2014 Kansai: Kobe (Ali) Kobe Harbor                 My final stop in Kansai was Kobe. Originally, I wasn't supposed to stop in Kobe, but my Kobe host mother was having a workshop and asked the office if the visiting intern could attend. I am so happy she did! After attending the Kansai workshop for this year's Yearlong-sei and  Seishounen  on Sunday at the Osaka Hippo office, I went to my host mom's workshop.I think the goal of the workshop was to get members excited about going on homestays. At the workshop we heard from various Hippo members about their homestay experiences.  Yearlong-sei and  Seishounen also talked about where they were planning on going and what they were looking forward to. I was neat to hear everyone's stories. Kobe Luminarie              On Monday, I...
